One More Day

Dennis recently told me about a guy that he follows who was killed in a plane crash with his whole family. He had just listened to him the day before and the guy was talking about the vacation they were taking. How sad and tragic. I recently heard a song I’ve never heard, titled, “One More Day” by Sons of Sunday. The theme of this beautiful song is being thankful for God giving us one more day.

As believers we can pray for protection, for God to surround us and guard us from harm. But we see it every day, good people, those who you KNOW believe and pray just like you and I for all of God’s grace, are taken from this earth far too early…in our opinion.

We may never know or understand this side of heaven why God does what He does. But our place is not to understand it, but to trust it. Perhaps comfort can be found in Isaiah 57:1-2 (NLT) “Good people pass away; the godly often die before their time. But no one seems to care or wonder why. No one seems to understand    that God is protecting them from the evil to come. For those who follow godly paths will rest in peace when they die.” People who are hurting may question the “evil to come” scenario this verse offers, but again, we have to have faith that our Father sees the bigger picture and that His ways are higher than our ways, even if we can’t comprehend any of it.

What we can do, however, is grasp tightly to the knowledge that the death of our loved ones isn’t the end of their story, just the end of a chapter. When we believe in God’s truths and align ourselves with His purpose, we do not have to fear death; instead, we can see it as their transition to eternal peace and joy with the Father. In the wake of someone’s death, we often hear the word ‘legacy,’ which is defined as, “the long-lasting impact of particular events, actions, etc. that took place in the past, or of a person’s life.” Long-lasting impact of a person’s life. What if the death of one spurred hundreds to turn their lives around, to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior, expanding the Kingdom of Heaven? What if the righteous actions of one were exposed in their death and those actions were magnified for all the world to see?

No one knows the day or hour, so be prepared. Repent of your sins, acknowledge Jesus as the crucified and resurrected King, and allow God to direct your path…and remember, always be grateful for One More Day!
