Only He is Strong Enough
I can’t tell you how many HOPE Notes have been inspired by a song I’ve heard on the radio. Well, here we go again…except this time the song has been out since 2010, so I’ve heard it MANY times. The song is by Matthew West, one of my favorite artists, and it’s called Strong Enough. He’s asking God to be strong enough for the both of them because he can’t go through his struggle alone. He sings that maybe reaching the point of giving up and hitting rock bottom is to recognize that he can’t do it on his own and that’s when he starts looking up and reaching out.
One thought that came to my mind is that God gave us eyes to see, but often times, we see too much or we don’t see enough. We’re always looking…looking for love, for money, for answers…but that kind of looking gets us into trouble. In his song, West says that he recognizes his inability to do things on his own. Recognizing is seeing. When he hit rock bottom, he saw that God’s way was the only way.
The other thought I had was a race horse, and how they have blinders on while they’re racing so they remain focused without distraction. God wants us to focus on Him, so that He can shield us from all the things that might distract us from His love for us. I looked up the word ‘focus’ and one definition said, “adapt to the prevailing level of light and become able to see clearly.”
One lyric line reads “this looks like more than I can do on my own.” Only when we stay fixated on Jesus can we begin to really see that without Him, we can do nothing. We don’t have to see the solution to our problem if we’re looking to Him. We don’t have to know all the answers if we trust in the One who does. On our own, we may not be strong enough, but if we can adapt to the ultimate prevailing level of Light, we are able to see clearly that He’s strong enough for both of us.
