The Devil Is NOT In The Details

There is song by Matt Maher and Seph Schlueter  called “Counting My Blessings.” In the chorus, two of the lines sing, “The more I look in the details, the more of Your goodness I find.”

I remember when I was a baby believer, I didn’t know much. If I’m honest, I didn’t know anything. I’d never gone to church, except for an occasional Easter morning or midnight service on Christmas Eve. The first time I heard Pastor mention CEO Christians, I laughed because that’s what my family was…Christmas and Easter Only! The more I learned, the more amazed I was that there was a Father in heaven who loved me. As wonderful as His love for us is, there’s SO much more to God. It wasn’t until I started reading His word, did I start to understand even more about this Jesus that I had heard died for me.

God is a protector. Isaiah 54:17 “No weapon formed against you shall prosper.” 2 Thessalonians 3:3 “God will establish you and guard you against the evil one.”

He is a provider. Philippians 4:19 “God will supply every need of yours according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” 2 Corinthians 9:8 “God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.”

These examples are just a glimpse into who God is and what He can do for us. The more you look in the details, the more of His goodness you’ll find. I kind of get a visual of something you might look at under a microscope. At first glance, you may not see much, but once it’s magnified, you’ll see that there is life and movement between the slides. When you take time to take a closer look at God through His Word, you find life and movement between the pages and His goodness becomes magnified.

Sure, you can learn about Him from your pastor, maybe even your friends and family. But to know it in your knower, to really grasp who God is, you have to dust off the Good Book, crack it open and find out for yourself what it means to be a believer...you have to dig into the details.
