If Joy Comes in the Morning, Morning better Hurry!!

I think the reason the bible is so controversial is because its words are so often misinterpreted, and that only leads to lies and confusion. Take, for instance, Psalm 30:5, which says “…weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.” Someone may read that and say one night they were sad and they were STILL sad in the morning…no joy to be found. This confusion only stirs up frustration and mistrust, which could cause a believer to fall away or leave a non-believer unchanged.

The only way to combat the confusion is to cover it with truth; and where do we find truth? More scripture! 2 Peter 3:8 says “But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: with the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.” Before this muddles your mind again, let’s break it down. God created time for us, not for Himself. We’ve become so dependent on having everything we need/want RIGHT NOW, we’ve lost the ability to wait. This verse tells us that God’s timing is not our timing and it implies that we may need to wait on the Lord before we see the end of our suffering. So, when you read that sorrow may last for a night, but joy comes in the morning, it may be saying your night might be one night, several nights or even a year of nights…we don’t know. But what we do know is that if we don’t lose hope, if we trust that God is faithful to His word, then we can believe that joy WILL come some morning in our future.

Waiting is hard, but no one ever said following Jesus was easy. One thing we can be sure of is that in the waiting, He’s working on a plan. Galatians 6:9 says, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” At the proper time…that’s God’s time. When I’d ask my mom a question about when she was going to do something she said she would do, her reply was often, “When I’m good and ready.” God is telling us to not give up, remain committed to doing good, and when He’s good and ready, we will reap a harvest!
