Just a Piece of the Puzzle
As someone who loves jigsaw puzzles, I was enlightened by a friend’s Facebook post recently. Steve Lattier, also a TLCC member, talked about how we all have issues in our lives…medical, financial, etc., and we question how can this be what is meant for us. He then held up a puzzle box and asked why we have more faith in a manufacturer that all 1000 pieces to complete the puzzle are in that box than we do for our God, the creator of the world, who put us together and knows what is best for us. I really liked his idea and asked his permission to share it.
What he said is true on so many levels. We trust doctors with our lives…literally, we trust the manufacturers of the cars we drive, we trust the engineers who design the bridges we cross. We seemingly, without thought, put our faith in other people or other things all the time. When we are really vulnerable, struggling with difficult life issues, why do we turn to the world for help instead of our creator? Sometimes, we feel as though our lives are in a thousand pieces and we can’t find two pieces that fit together, yet we don’t turn to our Owner’s Manual for guidance.
Psalm 139:13 (AMP) says, “For You formed my innermost parts; You knit me [together] in my mother’s womb.” That sounds like a puzzle to me. God knows every piece of you; He intricately put you together in your mother’s womb. He also created everything around you, and He knows ever circumstance that awaits you or has already ensnared you. When your car isn’t running, you don’t call a plumber to come fix it; you take it to a mechanic, because they are car experts. When you need your clothes altered, you don’t call an electrician; you call a seamstress, because they are sewing experts. When we struggle with all that life throws at us, it seems logical that we’d turn to God first because of His infinite knowledge and expertise of His creation.
All puzzles are different. They come in different sizes, with varying difficulty and number of pieces. Some pieces are uniform and some puzzles have very odd shapes. But one thing is universal…every piece only fits in one spot. You yourself are a puzzle, but you are also the piece that will complete a larger puzzle…an eternal piece of art. There is nothing more satisfying, especially after investing many hours, than to place that last piece to complete the puzzle you’ve been working. Philippians 1:6 (AMP) says “I am convinced and confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will [continue to] perfect and complete it until the day of Christ Jesus [the time of His return].” God’s puzzle will not be complete until all His pieces are in their right spot.
