The Father’s Fine Facets
Diamonds…precious stones considered by many to be a girl’s best friend! Even though someone invented look-alike Cubic Zirconias, and some diamonds are now man-made in a lab, a pure diamond is a treasure because it goes through a LOT before it lands on your finger. Diamonds take years to form deep in the earth under intense heat and pressure. Once they are harvested, they endure rigorous testing to determine their cut, carat, and clarity. Then, the stone is laser cut, shaped and polished to form many faces, or facets, on the stone. A description I found of this process said this, “this cut refracts the light inside the gem and reflects light on the outside facets of the gemstone, maximizing the stone’s brilliance and fire.”
Recently, Pastor commented on the angels singing “Holy, Holy, Holy” as they hovered around God, wing to wing. Imagine, if you will, all the angels around God; each of them would be seeing a different side of Him…a different facet. When you think of His attributes, it is quite awe-inspiring. Our God is infinite, meaning He is without origin; self-existing. He has no needs, He is self-sufficient. He is unchanging, faithful and wise. He is omnipresent, omniscient, and omnipotent, meaning He is everywhere, all-knowing, and all-powerful. From any angle, all you see are countless facets that maximize His brilliance and fire. Look again at the facet description…it refracts the light from within, then reflects outward…is that not a beautiful visual of God, the author of light?
Some have invented artificial gods, and they may look good on the surface, but under the trained eye, there’s no light or brilliance there. Some gods are man-made and although they sparkle, they haven’t been time tested or gone through intense heat and pressure. Real diamonds may be costly, but their worth will only increase over time.
The largest rough diamond ever found is known as the Cullinan Diamond, mined in South Africa in 1905, weighing over 3000 carats. That’s HUGE…but it doesn’t hold a candle to my multi-faceted, light-reflecting, high clarity God! His brilliance is all this girl needs!
