Value and Venues

Pastor jokes about being against bottled water when it first came out…and all the younger people are saying, “what do you mean, when it first came out?” LOL. It was kind of weird at first, the thought of paying for a plastic bottle of water, when we were raised drinking out of the garden hose! I haven’t kept track of what it cost in the beginning, when someone came up with the idea, but now you can buy a case for about $4. What is maddening about that is when you go to a grocery store, a single bottle may cost you $1, at a restaurant, $3, or at the airport or sports arena, you might pay as much as $6 or $8! For ONE bottle!! It may have a different label on it, but it’s all still JUST water. The only thing that changed is the venue and the value.

Sometimes in life, we feel under-valued, or worse, we feel like we have no worth at all. When we look to the world’s venue for our self-worth, we tend to feel unappreciated when our actions or even our presence go unnoticed. I think this verse in Matthew perfectly describes human value. Verse 6:26 “Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” Do you see the ‘and yet’ part of this verse? The birds don’t have to work for God’s heart or approval. This tells me that our worth in the eyes of our Father is not dependent on what we do…we are precious in His sight and worthy of His love and provision, no matter what!

As a believer, when you find your purpose within God’s venue, it should eliminate the feelings of unworthiness. You understand that whatever you do, wrong or right, your heavenly Father is still going to love you. He is still going to hold you in high esteem as His most prized creation.

If you are feeling like you have no value, maybe you’re in the wrong venue.
