What I See
Most of you know, but for those who may not, I spend many Sundays in our sound booth working the overhead, ensuring that you see the worship song lyrics and Pastor’s sermon on the TVs up front. It isn’t a hard job, but it does require concentration to keep up with the slides, which doesn’t really allow for any “get-lost-in-the-music” worship time. Someone recently recognized this and asked me, “you don’t really get to worship, do you?” I shook my head, but said it was okay, because it’s one way I get to serve others.
I got to thinking about it later and I closed my eyes and kind of played a Sunday through in my head. I realized that being higher up, I see things that maybe you don’t see. I see a young child lift her hands in adoration of her daddy God, even though her actions may be only mimicking those of her parents. I think “what a blessing to know and love the Lord at such a young age.” I see someone I’ve been praying for, knowing they are hurting, and they have a smile on their face, with their eyes facing the heavens. I look around and see a guest singing along to songs they do not know, so they depend on those overhead slides that project the lyrics.
So, there may be days that I don’t get to experience a deep connection through worship, but that doesn’t mean I’m not connecting with God. He’s showing me faith and grace throughout the congregation, through their connection with Him. As He opens the eyes of my heart, I get to see God more, in all His splendor.
Psalm 119:18 “Open my eyes, that I may see wondrous things.”
